Considered by many to be the most beautiful destination in the Philippines El Nido is a series of stunning limestone islands, islets and beaches nestled amongst the blue water of Bacuit Bay at the northern tip of Palawan. Home to unique ecosystems that include different types of forest and jungle cover, rare and endangered bird and mammal species, dolphins, turtles and over 1100 different coral and fish species El Nido is an especially important Philippines center of bio-diversity.
A series of luxury high end and sustainable eco friendly Resorts have been developed in the area providing guests with the opportunity to appreciate and interact with the environment in a most intimate way. The emphasis is on low impact nature based activities including diving, snorkeling, hiking, kayaking and beach hopping. The immediate area around Bacuit Bay is a wonderful place to explore and, assisted by knowledgeable guides, guests will relish the opportunity to discover more about this marine based paradise.
It's a perfect destination for families and couples on short or medium length stays and with so many outdoor experiences available it is ideal for those who wish to combine beach based comfort and luxury with environmental based adventure and education.
The majority of El Nido resorts are situated on private islands providing a unique tropical island experience. We also feature Resorts and Dive Centers based close to El Nido Town - the jump point for Bacuit Bay - and these too provide tours and activities in the Bay.
El Nido Town is best reached by direct Charter flights from Manila. Approximately 3 flights depart each day and then you take a private boat trip to your island resort (or short road trip to your land-based Resort).
El Nido is a year round diving destination. Broadly there are two seasons: Dry from December through to early June and Wet from June through to November. Sea breezes are more prominent November to February. The warmest months are usually April and May and the heaviest rainfall is generally seen in July and August.
El Nido is perhaps not the best ’must visit’ destination for experienced Divers but it is a perfect place to begin diving experiences and it is also ideal for those who wish to combine some relaxing diving with other water based activities in an outstandingly beautiful location. It is though one of the best places in the Philippines for snorkeling as many superb corals and fish species inhabit the shallow inner reefs.
Our featured Island Resorts all have PADI Dive Centers which provide a range of Courses from single day introductions to diving through to Open and Advanced Open Water Courses.
The waters around Bacuit Bay consist of shallow reefs alive with fish species and pristine corals, sandy slopes and of course deep walls dropping form the limestone karsts. With little current and good visibility this is a perfect place for beginning your diving experiences.
More experienced divers will enjoy a fascinating range of macro-life and there are great opportunities for photography. Turtles, bumphead parrotfish, batfish and grouper are commonly seen on the reef tops, schools of barracuda and jacks are in the area and there are occasional sightings of tuna, rays and sharks.
There are over 30 sites in the area and they are mainly based around three of the primary islands: Cadlao Island is one of the larger islands and it's coastline is fringed by shallow protected reefs making this a popular location for training dives and easy fun dives.
Entalula Island provides spectacular walls with small caverns and swim throughs, in the right conditions this leads to particularly enjoyable drift dives.
Miniloc Island is well known for beautiful corals and an amazing array of fish life.
